No Matter(2022-23)
The concept of “dark matter” is a hypothesis relative to the laws of things that already exist. It is thought to be a substance that permeates the entire cosmos but is obscured from view because it cannot be seen with the naked eye. Similar to when people look at a fish tank, they usually draw their attention to the fish, not the water. However, in this work, the negative spaces surrounding particular objects serve as the visual focal point of the image. These negative space contours are extracted after the original photos are converted into negative images, and they are then intermingled within a particular scene, hence transforming the nature of both. Such reconstruction shifts the center of our vision and blurs our perception of familiar things, thus allowing us to perceive the space from a different perspective.
